Davie police officer bonds out of jail after extortion arrest

James Krey accused of threatening to share nude photos of ex-girlfriend

DAVIE, Fla. – A Davie police officer facing extortion charges walked out of the Broward County main jail on bond Thursday morning.

James Krey, a 12-year veteran of the Davie Police Department, didn't say anything to reporters as he left to get fitted for an ankle monitor.

According to Coral Springs police, who arrested Krey while he was on duty, the officer threatened to share nude pictures of his ex-girlfriend, who was also a police officer, if she didn't resign.

Sgt. Joe McHugh said Krey was "texting, 'You'd better come and meet with me. Otherwise, I'm going to send personal photos of you' that were taken during their intimate relationship."

Krey's attorney told the judge that the former officer of the year has three children and an exemplary record.

Still, Evans set Krey's bond at $75,000 -- 10 times the normal bond amount for such charges.

Krey has been placed on administrative leave. His ex-girlfriend now lives in Coral Springs.
