FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A woman drove her car through the front entrance of the emergency room of Broward Health Imperial Hospital early Sunday morning.
"We were like, 'This isn't happening. This just doesn't happen,'" said Jo-Ann Fleischman.
Broward Health officials said the crash happened about 5:30 a.m. Fleischman said she took her aunt in overnight for treatment. They were in an exam room when they heard the crash.
"My dad and I were sitting down and my aunt was in the bed, and we just were sitting there probably talking and we heard what we thought was, like, bed pans falling," Fleischman said.
A woman behind the wheel of a Ford Taurus went barreling through the glass doors of the hospital.
The car came to a stop close to their exam room.
"It was about 2 1/2, maybe 3 feet from her bed," Fleischman said.
The car shattered the glass doors and other items inside, but the building itself stayed intact. Fleischman said she knows they came just inches from serious injury.
"We were thanking God for protecting us," she said.
Investigators have not yet released information on the driver or whether the woman will face charges.
