Medical supply company raided by feds in Boca Raton

Company has ties to man who inspired character in 'Wolf of Wall Street'

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Federal agents raided a medical supply company in Boca Raton that has alleged ties to a man who inspired one of the main characters in the movie "The Wolf of Wall Street."

It seemed business as usual Thursday at the Med Care telemarketing firm in Boca Raton. It's almost hard to believe that just Wednesday morning, the FBI was raiding the offices as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into the company that sells medical supplies on the phone.

At the center of the investigation is Danny Porush, who served 39 months in prison after his involvement in the financial scandal portrayed in "The Wolf of Wall Street." Actor Jonah Hill played the character based on Porush.

Porush, who now lists a swank Bal Harbour address, refused to answer questions as he drove off in his Rolls Royce and again refused to come out of his office and speak Thursday with Local 10 News investigate reporter Bob Norman, instead trotting out attorney Justin Weddle.

"There's a lot of litigation going on, and he's not going to come out here and talk to you," Weddle told Norman.

The company's tactics has been investigated in congressional hearings. Several former employees allege Porush is back to his old tricks, running a boiler room fraud aimed at Medicare patients.

"Is this a fraud? What's going on here?" asked Norman.

"Absolutely not," Weddle said.

"So you're saying what's being alleged in congressional hearings in a civil lawsuit with an FBI investigation, that's all false?" Norman asked.

"Look, as I said, we need to respond in the proper forum to allegations," said Weddle.
