CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Investigators shut down, and surrounded a Coral Springs community after an officer was shot in the ankle near Coral Springs Drive and W. Sample Road.
Police told Local 10 News narcotics investigators were executing a search warrant at a home in the area.
Officials said tactical units were on hand to assist and moved in quickly.
"We heard two big explosions and my dad went to the back," said Valeria Alay, who lives near the home.
Coral Springs police said an officer was accidentally shot in the process, but could not say if the officer shot himself or another officer fired while handling the weapon.
The injured officer was hit in the ankle and transported to be treated.
Coral Springs police could not confirm if any arrests had been made or if anything was seized from the home. Investigators said the case is still open and expect to release more information Friday.
