FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A Fort Lauderdale man is accused of animal cruelty after he choked and dragged a puppy in a store parking lot Tuesday, police said.

According to the police report, Reginald Ware picked up a 2-month-old pit bull by the neck and was choking the puppy. Ware then tied a nylon stocking around the puppy's neck and dragged the dog through the parking lot.

The dog had scrape marks on its paws, was missing patches of fur and was very malnourished, the report said.

Ware was being held at the main Broward County jail on $2,500 bond.

The dog was taken to Broward County animal control for treatment.
