Top 10 events at Miami Book Fair International

Downtown Miami street fair and special events run until Sunday

MIAMI – These are the highlights at the Miami Book Fair International. All of the events require a $15 ticket and are held at Miami-Dade College, 300 NE Second Ave., at the Chapman Conference Center in building 3, room 3210.

TUESDAY

Two-time Pulitzer winning reporter Nicholas D. Kristof will talk about his book "A Path Appears" offers practical, results-driven advice on how best each of us can give, and reveals the lasting benefits we gain in return. The event is at 8 p.m.

Dave Barry, also known as The Funniest Man in America,  will try to get serious about his new book "You Can Date Boys When You're Forty." He will have the company of Sandra Tsing Lo who will talk about her memoir "The Madwoman in the Volvo." The event is at 6 p.m.

WEDNESDAY

Barbara Ehrenreich is the author of "Nickel and Dimed," a memoir of her three-month experiment surviving on minimum wage as a waitress, hotel maid, house cleaner, nursing-home aide and Wal-Mart clerk. The event is at 6 p.m.


THURSDAY

Authors Larry McMurty and Diana Ossana and Robert Weil, W.W. Norton executive editor, talk about their writing partnership. Their novel "Pretty Boy Floy" and "Zeke and Ned" have been successful. They also co-wrote the Oscar and Golden Globe-winning screenplay adaptation for "Brokeback Mountain." The event is at 6 p.m.

FRIDAY

The 20 winners and finalists of the National Book Foundation's National Book Awards meet for special readings. Expect Rabih Alameddine, Deborah Wiles, Eliot Schrefer, Fanny Howe, Maureen McLane, Anand Gopal, Evan Osnos, Emily St. John Mandel, Phil Klay and Roz Chast. The event is at 6 p.m.

SATURDAY

Political history event with John W. Dean on "The Nixon Defense" and Rick Perlstein on "The Fall of Nixon and the Rise of Reagan." Dean was legal counsel to President Nixon during the Watergate scandal. The event is at 10 a.m.

Walter Isaacson on The Innovators. He has been the chairman and CEO of CNN and the editor of TIME magazine. He is the author of several biographies highly influential figures, including "Steve Jobs; Einstein: His Life and Universe," which was the bestselling nonfiction book of 2011; The event is at 11:30 a.m.

Tavis Smiley on Dr. Martin Luther King. His latest book is "Death of a King: The Real Story of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Final Year" where he recounts Smiley recounts the final 365 days of King's life. The event is at 5 p.m.

SUNDAY

Azar Nafisi is the New York Times bestselling author of "Reading Lolita in Tehran" and "Things I've Been Silent About: Memories of a Prodigal Daughter." She will talk about her new book "The Republic of Imagination."

John Cleese on his rollicking memoir "So Anyway." Cleese takes readers on a Grand Tour of his ascent in the entertainment world, from his humble beginnings in a sleepy English town and his early comedic days at Cambridge University. The event is at 7 p.m.
