Fort Lauderdale beauty shop decides to give refund to man with dementia

Owner of Luxury Beauty gives Terry Owens full refund of $7,738

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. ā€“ The owner of Luxury Beauty in Fort Lauderdale has had a change of heart: Nissim Buzaglo has taken back two bags of beauty products and issued Terry Owens a full refund of $7,738.

Owens, 67, has advanced stages of dementia. Friends said he has very little judgment and little ability to make decisions. He has no family.

Peter Harrington, a longtime friend who has power of attorney, said three weeks ago, Owens was lured into Luxury Beauty while walking to get a slice of pizza and sold all the beauty products.

Friends of Owens claim they have been asking Buzaglo to take back the products for weeks and he has refused.

"I and others have been attempting for two weeks to get him to refund the money without any success. Frankly, I don't think we would have the money today if wasn't for Channel 10," said Harrington.

On Tuesday, Local 10 confronted Buzaglo but he refused to talk, kicked Local 10's Jeff Weinsier out of his store and called Fort Lauderdale police. Harrington took Owens to the store Tuesday to ask for a refund, but Buzaglo refused.

Several stories aired by Local 10 have stirred anger and concern over the issue on social media.

"I obviously think he did the right thing under the glare of a tremendous amount of negative publicity. I'm sure he regrets selling the products to Terry," said Harrington.

Among the items sold to Owens were two bottles of 24-karat gold facial serum.

After Buzaglo issued the refund he told Local 10's Jeff Weinsier the TV stories have made him look bad and have ruined his business.

Buzaglo claims he didn't know Terry was sick. Friends said that's impossible.
