MIAMI ā On Monday, a controversial informant took the stand in the murder trial of Janepsy Carballo, saying the woman described the fatal shooting of Ilam Nissim to him as an "eye for an eye."
The informant was working on a separate drug investigation unrelated to this case when he recorded the conversation he had with Carballo.
Carballo is accused of luring her husband's business partner, Ilam Nissim, into her home in North Miami and fatally shooting him.
Prosecutors believe she was seeking revenge, thinking that Nissim was responsible for the shooting that left her husband, Orlando Mesa, dead and her 20-month-old son injured in 2008.
According to police, two men clad in black came to Carballo's house in April 2008 as Mesa was playing with his son in front of their home in North Miami. Police said the men, who had dreadlocks and were riding in a white Toyota, open fired at the father and son, fled the scene and came back to finish Mesa off.
Carballo's son was grazed by a bullet and survived his injuries.
Prosecutors were expected to call their final witness Tuesday.
