Suspect dead after police-involved shooting in Sunrise

Witness: Sunrise police officer fired 3 shots at man

SUNRISE, Fla. – A man is dead after a police-involved shooting in Sunrise.

The Sunrise Police Department said the officer-involved shooting occurred at North University Drive and Sunset Strip shortly before noon.

Sky 10 was above the scene at about 11:50 a.m. as several police cars were seen outside a Walgreens.

According to police, someone called 911 regarding two roommates fighting at a Mobil gas station nearby. When an officer arrived, he noticed one of the men, who is mentally unstable, had a knife.

Police said the officer followed the man, identified as 38-year-old Marlon Woodstock with the knife into the parking lot of the Walgreens and tased him. Police said Woodstock refused to put the knife down and the officer, identified as Gregory Loor, was forced to shoot.

A witness told Local 10 News that he saw Loor, who is a 14 year police veteran, fire three shots at Woodstock. He said before the shooting, Woodstock pulled out a pocket knife and told the officer, "This is all I have."
