Assailant dies after being shot during attempted robbery; veteran not hurt

MIAMI – Two men were arrested Thursday in the murder of a 19-year-old man during an attempted armed robbery of a disabled Vietnam War veteran, Miami police said.

The two men approached and proceeded to rob the veteran at gunpoint on Dec. 28 in front of 919 NW 47th Terrace.

Police said one of the assailants -- identified as 19-year-old Malik Carroll -- was shot during the robbery and later died at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

The veteran was not injured and the second robber was able to get away without any of the victim's property, police said.

Daniel Williams, 19, and Joe A. Dawson, 20, were arrested and charged Thursday with first-degree murder, premeditated murder and armed robbery with a firearm, according to Miami police.
