FPL contractor electrocuted in northwest Miami-Dade County

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A subcontractor for Florida Power & Light was electrocuted while working on a power line in Northwest Miami-Dade, police said.

Authorities identified the victim as a 67-year-old man.

According to Miami-Dade police, the man touched an active line around 11:45 a.m. and was electrocuted while working at a subdivision in the area of 9330 NW 33 Ct.

Police said the man, who worked for Enterprise Electrical Contracting Inc., was harnessed to the top of the pole and had to be brought down by rescue workers.

"We extend our thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of one of our contractors who was involved in an incident in Miami earlier today," FPL spokesman Bill Orlove said in a statement. "Safety is one of our core values at FPL and is part of the foundation of everything we do. We understand that local law enforcement agencies are working to determine what happened. We are unable to provide any additional information at this time."

Miami-Dade police homicide detectives are investigating the incident.
