Man's body pulled from Margate canal Friday morning

Nearby worker says he saw man sleeping near canal days ago

MARGATE, Fla. – A man's body was found in a canal Friday morning in Margate.

The discovery was made in a canal behind the Chevron gas station in the 5200 block of West Sample Road about 8 a.m.

Divers removed the body from the water.

A man who works at the Chevron station said he saw a man sleeping near the bank of the canal days ago.

"We walked over there and I guess we woke him up," Michael Wiltshire said. "You know, we just left. I didn't want to disturb him."

Margate police later identified the man as Scott Holloway, 41.

Police said the circumstances surrounding his death is under investigation, but there were no obvious signs of trauma.
