Fierce flames destroy home, spread to church

No one was hurt

MIAMI – A massive fire broke out at a duplex in downtown Miami.

The fire started about 8 p.m. Friday at 219 NW 14th Terrace.

Miami firefighters initially reported that a victim had been found underneath debris, but no body was found and no one was hurt.

The flames quickly spread to a nearby church.

"You can see the fire did grow out of control rather rapidly and, as a result, fire crews had to pull out and set up a defensive attack because of ceilings and roofs that started to collapse," Lt. Iggy Carroll said.

Smoke from the fire could be seen from miles away.

"It was ugly," said witness Franky Ventura, who captured the fire with his cellphone.
