MIAMI – David Beckham's team presented new renderings for a waterfront soccer stadium in downtown Miami on Thursday, but not everyone is pleased.
Civic leaders who have been working on their own plans for Museum Park don't want to see their vision pushed aside.
Years ago, Museum Park was dubbed a "public square for downtown Miami." The vision was to transform this waterfront green space adjacent to downtown Miami's new art and science museums into Miami's version of Millennium Park in Chicago. However, funds fell short amid a budget crunch.
Now Beckham's team plans to build their soccer stadium in the boat slip walling off the waterfront from street view, and encroach on at least four acres of Museum Park.
Beckham's team said green space would be gained by developing land behind the AmericanAirlines Arena into park space.
