MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A woman who was shot and killed near a northwest Miami-Dade County preschool Wednesday was a well-liked teacher at a charter school in Miami.
Fritz Raymond was surprised to learn Thursday that his neighbor, Michelle Wilcox, 33, was the woman fatally shot outside the Academy of Knowledge Preschool. He said she was a nice person.
Miami-Dade police said Wilcox was arguing with a man at a home near the preschool when he pulled out a gun, chased her down and shot her, leaving her body in a grassy swale.
Police have not identified the shooter, but they said the shooting was captured on the preschool's surveillance cameras.
Wilcox was a teacher at the Center of Life Academy, located inside the Miami Rescue Mission. Grief counselors were on hand Thursday to talk to Wilcox's students.
Nobody answered the door of the home Wilcox shared with her mother.
