MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. ā A small plane crashed into a lake in a northeast Miami-Dade County neighborhood Friday afternoon, but the pilot was able to walk away without a scratch.
Rob Ramirez told Local 10's Christina Vazquez he had been in the air for more than three hours and was returning to North Perry General Aviation Airport in Broward County when the banner plane lost engine power.
Realizing that he was going down, Ramirez chose the lake to avoid injuring anyone on the ground.
"I'm just glad nobody got hurt," Ramirez said.
The tail of the yellow plane could be seen sticking out of the water.
"It was harder than I thought," Ramirez said. "You hear water's soft. It's not."
A man and his son helped pull Ramirez out of the water.
"I appreciate everything that this community did for me," Ramirez said.
