MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A restaurant in the Ocean Drive hotel owned by Emilio and Gloria Estefan was ordered shut by State Inspectors last week. A whooping 41 violations were found on October 28th.
The Cardozo Hotel's website describes that place as elegant, chic, and sophisticated.
But below are some of the violations found at the Cardozo and other places in South Florida with problems.

"Rodent activity present as evidenced by rodent droppings found. Observed about 30 plus dried rodent droppings inside cabinet located at ice cream bar area. Dead roaches on premises. Dead roach inside reach in cooler. Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found. Observed about 20 plus roaches behind the reach in cooler located at the AC room. Observed about 5 live roaches among food condiments by walk in cooler Observed about 10 plus live roaches inside light box on top of rack of walk in cooler. Build-up of soil/debris on the floor along the walls, baseboards, cabinets and/or equipment. Observed trash and debris behind the reach in cooler located at the AC ROOM. Observed trash and debris under the shelves by walk in cooler."
Frank Amadeo, president of Estefan Enterprises, issued a statement, saying: "Estefan Enterprises does not manage or operate The Cardozo Bar & Grill, which is leased to a third party. Nonetheless we take the issue of health and safety very seriously. As soon as we became aware of the Health Department's concerns, we demanded that our tenant immediately correct the issues, which they did. The health inspector returned to the property the following morning and determined that the restaurant was in compliance and reopened it."
