FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A woman tried stopping a man who robbed a Walgreens in Fort Lauderdale early Tuesday.
Emese Kiss walked into the store at 1515 E. Sunrise Boulevard behind the robber at 6:35 a.m.
"I was pulling in. I saw this whack-a-doodle walking back and forth, and I'm like, 'What the hell is this whack-a-doodle doing?'" she said.
The robber handed money to a clerk as he paid for some items, police say. When the register opened, he leaned over the counter and stole two handfuls of cash.
"All of a sudden you hear, 'Ah! Help!" said Kiss. "I look over, he's over the counter, I don't know exactly what he's taking."
As he tried to leave, Kiss used her car to stop him.
"Something clicked in my head because everybody knows there's a cut-through behind that plaza," she said.
She blocked his getaway route until he pulled out a gun.
"He had the gun pointing at me and he just looked at me with this stare in his eyes and I'm looking and I'm like wow," said Kiss.
Kiss thought about her 2-year-old daughter and backed up. The robber then drove off.
"He's not gonna get away. It's gonna catch up [with him] because one is never enough," she said.
The robber, described as about 30 years old, 5 feet 11 inches tall, and last seen wearing a red and blue checkered shirt and jeans, left the Walgreens in a silver sedan, police say. Investigators believe it was a Hyundai or Honda.
Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
