15 hospitalized when deck falls into Biscayne Bay

NORTH BAY VILLAGE, Fla. – Miami-Dade police released 911 calls made when a deck collapsed Thursday night at Shuckers Bar & Grill.

Fifteen people were hospitalized when the deck of the North Bay Village restaurant collapsed into Biscayne Bay. The incident happened about 10 p.m. during a Miami Heat watch party at the restaurant. Two people suffered serious injuries.

"Oh my God, the thing just collapses in the water," said one caller. "The whole thing just collapsed. There's people in the water. Please!"

"I'm at Shuckers Bar & Grill and the deck just totally and completely collapsed," said another caller. "There's at least 100 people in the water. Other people are going to save them but it's horrible."

"The whole deck and the whole bar fell and everyone is in the water and I don't know if they're okay," said a third caller.

A former manager at the restaurant said loose wooden planks was constantly an issue there.

The Miami-Dade Police Department and a private building inspector hired by North Bay Village are investigating.
