MIAMI – Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez's appointment of J.D. Patterson Jr. as the Miami-Dade Police Department's new Director was confirmed by the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners Tuesday.
Director Patterson will assume his new role immediately and oversee the department's 4,065 employees and $526 million budget, the city said.

"Director Patterson's proven experience, leadership skills and unquestionable integrity make him the ideal person to lead our Police Department," said Mayor Gimenez. "He rose through the ranks and has a unique understanding of our community and the department's operations, its policies and management."
