FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. ā Recent erosion along Fort Lauderdale beach has changed A1A forever. Now a push is on to find a solution once and for all.
"We can stop the destruction that's happening," said Ft. Lauderdale commission candidate Chuck Black.
Black said submersible boxes will stop the destruction. It works by submersing them 12-feet offshore. The waves coming in are slowed, and the waves going out don't steal the sand.
"It's ready to go now, the modules are built, and within 72 hours we can have them here and ready for deployment," said Denise Johnson, Resolve Marine Corp.
The cost could be a quarter million dollars, but Ft. Lauderdale's own Resolve Marine Group said it will absorb almost everything, except for about $20,000 to $30,000.
"This is something that needs to be taken care of and taken care of now," said Black.
The only downside may be the tops of these boxes would stick out of the water in plain view.
"Aesthetically, not what we'd prefer to do, but that's the short term solution," said Johnson.
"With in 72-hours, we can stop the destruction that's happening," said Black.
