HIALEAH, Fla. – For years, Hialeah resident Carlos Perez was not a happy man.
After living with bent telephone poles in front of his house since Hurricane Andrew, Perez watched as new poles were installed six years ago -- only to be dismayed when the old ones were never removed.
Perez made call after call, but no one seemed to be listening.
"I called the city of Hialeah. I called (Florida Power & Light). I called AT&T. I called everybody, and everybody gave me the runaround," said Perez.
Luckily, Perez got in touch with Local 10's Jen Herrera, who immediately got in touch with FPL. After that, it didn't take long for a smile to reach Perez's face.
"I call you and two hours later I got a call from FPL, from a supervisor or something, telling me that it was going to be taken care of," said Perez.
In a statement, FPL said, "There are numerous inspections that must be completed prior to removing the old pole. Although this process can be lengthy, Mr. Perez's situation should have been handled in a more timely manner."
And as promised, crews showed up on Perez's street and removed all nine of the disfigured and unused poles.
