Southwest Ranches Vice Mayor Doug McKay has raised the ire of many of his constituents over the building of an immigration prison in the small Broward town.
Now the attention is turning to McKay's own prison stint.
The politician did a year in federal prison after being convicted of drug conspiracy and dealing marijuana in 1981. Ten years later he was hit with insurance fraud and grand theft charges over an alleged scheme to bill false health claims involving forgeries and the use of a dead doctor. McKay was alleged to have used the same health care provider that cared for a premature daughter who later died. McKay was sentenced to four years probation in the case.
The video above tells the story, as McKay admits he was on the wrong path but blames the insurance fraud case on his ex-wife, who was also charged in the case (at left is a photo from their wedding). I found her in Orlando and she not only denied it but slammed McKay, making new allegations against him, saying the vice mayor is "crooked as a cow's hind leg," and warning Southwest Ranches residents to keep an eye on him.
