The new company celebrated the arrival of the first of its six new planes at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport with a water cannon salute on the tarmac as pilots and employees looked on.

The Saab 340 aircraft seats 34 people and will provide service from Florida to the Bahamas. The new planes will add to the existing fleet of 21 Beechcraft models and will include cabin service and restrooms.

Darrell Richardson, Silver Airways CEO, said the airline will create jobs in South Florida. Positions for flight attendants, pilots and others are currently available.

The entire fleet of planes is expected to be ready by the summer of 2012.

"This is a new beginning," Richardson said.
