Bombshell No. 1: Rothstein implicates attorney Steve Rossi

It didn't take long for the Scott Rothstein Show that started in Miami this morning to provide a new plot twist in the two-year-old Ponzi saga.

A prison-fit and graying Rothstein, wearing jeans and a t-shirt and sporting a goatee, implicated new alleged co-conspirators in his billion-dollar fraud, claiming that three law firms collaborated with him to trick investors, said attorney Bill Scherer, who questioned the imprisoned lawyer during the first day of his marathon two-week deposition.

Scherer wouldn't say who the firms were, but other lawyers at the deposition at the federal courthouse in Miami identified one of the alleged attorneys as Steve Rossi, who is best known for bus benches he has all over town.

Rothstein claimed that Rossi -- a former prosecutor and FBI agent who ran for Fort Lauderdale mayor in 2008 -- vouched for bogus legal settlements with dubious investors, saying he had referred some of the cases to the Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler law firm.

Rossi didn't return a detailed message for comment.

With that revelation right out of the gate, it appears Rothstein isn't in this to disappoint.

Among those seen at the deposition: Federal prosecutor Larry Levecchio, bankruptcy attorney Chuck Lichtman (who was the first attorney to question Rothstein before Scherer got his chance), and attorney Sam Rabin.
