FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A former Miami Dolphins player and a teacher at Nova High School were among the 280 people arrested in a two-day multiagency operation to crack down on drugs and weapons.
The Broward Sheriff's Office named former Dolphins player Igor Olshansky as a suspect arrested in Operation Cold Turkey.
According to the arrest report, Olshansky was found rolling a marijuana joint at the kitchen table of his Fort Lauderdale home. Police said Olshansky also had a clear baggie with about 19 grams of marijuana on the table near him.
Olshansky was released from the Dolphins earlier this week.
Michael Redmond also was arrested, accused of growing, possessing and processing marijuana at his Plantation home. Police said they found three-dozen pot plants in the home's back yard, as well as 75 grams of processed pot in Redmond's bedroom.
Redmond faces a single charge of cultivating cannabis.
Redmond is a teacher and an assistant baseball coach at Nova High School, Broward County Public Schools confirmed Friday. District representatives said they had not been notified of the arrest yet as of Friday afternoon, and once Redmond self-reports, he will be put on administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal investigation.
More than 200 law enforcement officers from various agencies participated in the operation, which resulted in 280 arrests and the confiscation of 15 weapons, more than 2,000 oxycodone pills, $35,000 in cash, an AK-47, a sawed-off shotgun and other items.
