Jen Herrera gets fit with Crossfit

Local 10's anchor showed she's the toughest member of the team

WESTON, Fla. – For the past six months, Local 10 anchor Jen Herrera has been training in a warehouse-like box getting fit with Crossfit, a new type of workout getting people sweating all over the country.

In March, Jen walked into Ripped in Weston—otherwise known as a Crossfit "box." It's a warehouse with no mirrors, no cardio equipment and no dumbbells—just basic barbells and other very in shape people.

"The only way to burn fat is to build muscle," Crossfit coach Scott Gruebele said. "The only way to build muscle is to life some weights."

And for six months, that's exactly what Jen did, training with Gruebele and David Zitnick in preparation for the Broward Affiliate Cup. The competition is when Crossfit teams around the country complete the same workouts for time.

The challenge includes 155 pound dead lifts, 30 55-pound kettle bell high pulls, 20 14-pound wall balls and a 100-meter sprint to finish it off, among other physical trials.

"She's doing things she was never willing to take the risk of trying on her own and now she's doing them and doing them well," Zitnick said.
