Michael Hernandez Sent To Prison Near Lake City

MIAMI – A South Florida teenager sentenced to life in prison for the killing of a classmate has begun serving his life sentence in the northern part of the state.

Michael Hernandez, 18, was taken to the Columbia Correctional Institution Annex just east of Lake City, Fla., on Thursday. The maximum capacity of the prison is a little more than 1,000 inmates.

Hernandez was convicted of first-degree murder in the killing of Jaime Gough in 2004. Gough was found with stab wounds in the bathroom of Southwood Middle School.

A judge sentenced Hernandez to life in prison without parole plus 30 years.
