FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – May Garcia was born in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1912. On Friday, she became a U.S. citizen during an emotional ceremony in Fort Lauderdale. 

Garcia, who visits the Sadkin Senior Community Center daily for Zumba classes, is a mother of four. She has twelve grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren.

Garcia witnessed Jamaica's independence from Britain and moved to the U.S. in 1993. At 104 years old, Garcia pledged allegiance to the U.S. flag just in time to be able to vote in the next presidential election.
