OPA-LOCKA, Fla. – One person was killed and one was injured Tuesday in a shooting in Opa-locka.
The shooting was reported about 12:30 p.m. in the 2100 block of Lincoln Avenue.
The victim killed was identified by family members as Tavares Fullington, 33, who was a father of one. Relatives told Local 10 News reporter Neki Mohan that they were told that he was begging for his life when he was killed.
"We got a phone call saying that he had gotten shot, and they said that whoever did it...They said he was begging for his life," a relative said.
According to Miami-Dade police, officers were called to the area after reports of an assault. When they arrived they found two men suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Fullington was pronounced dead at the scene and the other man was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where he was taken into surgery. He is currently listed in critical condition.
"It's sickening, but I just know that the no snitching policy needs to stop," a local pastor, Eric Readon, said. "Somebody from this community saw something and needs to step up, because it's this family's day today but it could be your family tomorrow."
No arrests have been made.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
