FHP says driver of Dodge Charger was speeding

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A man was killed Thursday morning after a crash in Kendall.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a box truck was pulling out of the Pollo Tropical at Kendall Drive and Southwest 117th Avenue to make a right turn onto Kendall Drive. While it was turning, an orange Dodge Charger speeding in the westbound lanes struck the truck. The car overturned and caught fire.

Those inside had to be pulled out of the car by witnesses who rushed to the rescue from a nearby gas station and restaurant. Those witnesses used a fire extinguisher from the gas station to put the fire out.

The driver of the car died at the scene.

Two people inside the box truck were taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. The passenger of the Dodge Charger was also taken there with critical injuries.
