FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Michael Jackson’s music, moves and magic are lighting up the stage at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
“MJ: The Musical” isn’t just a tribute to the late King of Pop, but a full on experience.
Local 10’s Alexis Frazier spoke with one of the show’s actors who says the musical really pulls back the curtain on a special time in his life.
The Tony award-winning musical follows the making of MJ’s 1992 Dangerous World Tour.
Actor Jordan Markus plays Jackson in the show.
“It’s really a dream come true -- a full circle moment for me,” he said.
Like most of us, he’s been a fan of Jackson since he was a child, practicing MJ’s iconic moves and mannerisms.
But even if you’re a huge MJ fan, you could learn something new about the King of Pop.
One thing is for sure though -- you better get ready to dance.
“It’s a huge party, at the end of the day -- a celebration of music, but also expect to see a glimpse of who Michael was behind all of that,” Markus said.
From the iconic sequins to the glitzy gloves, the show’s costumes are a work of art.
“Michael was not only the King of Pop, but he was the king of fashion, a lot of people say,” Markus said.
Bringing that fashion to life is Paul Tazewell, who just won an Oscar for costume design for “Wicked.”
“Which is why the costumes are so phenomenal,” Markus said.
Markus also discussed MJ’s signature moves.
“The process learning these iconic dance moves, we had some of his dancers and choreographers come in to teach us all the little details that you don’t really see in videos and performances,” he said.
Markus says those who come out to watch the performances will laugh, cry and, of course, dance.
You can catch the show from now until April 20.
