The organization is inviting students, in grades seven to 12, to its annual training and onboarding event. It provides students an opportunity to earn community service hours while learning leadership skills and becoming part of the nonprofit’s junior advisory board.
The event will be held at Florida International University’s North Campus at the Wolfe University Center. It kicks off at 8 a.m. with registration and a breakfast followed by a series of activities that last through the afternoon.
“We focus on imparting essential skills such as public speaking, advocacy & leadership,” said Claudia McLean, Executive Director of Joshua’s Heart Foundation.
Joshua’s Heart Foundation was founded in 2005 by McLean’s son, Joshua Williams, when he was only 4 years old. To date, the youth-run organization has distributed more than 7 million pounds of food and recruited more than 60,000 youth volunteers.
Besides the breakfast, the event on Saturday will feature special parents meetings and a rope leadership course. All attendees are required to wear a white top and blue jeans.
