South Florida gets a taste of ramen at Fort Lauderdale Food and Wine Festival

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla ā€“ South Florida food lovers are in for a treat as the sixth annual Visit Lauderdale Food and Wine Festival serves up culinary delights this week.

One of the standout events, ā€œThe Art of Ramen,ā€ promises to show attendees how to craft the perfect bowl of the comforting dish from scratch.

Chefs Alex Cook and Diego Ng, co-owners of Temple Street Eatery in Fort Lauderdale, are leading the ramen-making class Tuesday evening.

ā€œWeā€™re going to show everybody how to make a beautiful bowl of ramen from scratch ā€” from making the noodles to the broths to all the garnishes,ā€ Ng told Local 10 News on Tuesdayā€™s Fresh Daily.

Ramen, often seen as the ultimate comfort food, is a dish that the chefs say many want to master.

ā€œThe flavors in there, the depth of the flavor... weā€™re going to share a little bit of our secrets tonight,ā€ Cook said. ā€œItā€™s perfect for the weather right now.ā€

The festivalā€™s offerings donā€™t stop there. Cook and Ng are also participating in another signature event, ā€œWok and Roll,ā€ on Thursday night.

That event highlights Asian American and Pacific Islander chefs from Broward and Miami-Dade counties, featuring 10 chefs from the region and one traveling from Miami.

ā€œWok and Roll will showcase amazing Asian cuisine, with a live band and entertainment,ā€ Ng said. ā€œItā€™s all for a great cause, benefiting the Joe DiMaggio Childrenā€™s Hospital.ā€

Cook emphasized the importance of the festival in showcasing the vibrant Fort Lauderdale community.

ā€œFor us, itā€™s about highlighting our community, highlighting Fort Lauderdale, and showing all the delicious food we have to offer.ā€

Among the dishes featured at Temple Street Eatery are their Godzilla Ramen, a protein-packed creation with ropa vieja, pork belly, and chicken broth, and Hanna Chicken, which draws inspiration from Chinese, Thai, Malay, and Cambodian cuisines.

Another standout is their katsu burger, a fried patty topped with pineapple and Asian slaw on a sweet bao bun.

The Art of Ramen class is set for Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Temple Street Eatery.

Tickets are $75 and include hands-on lessons in crafting ramen.
