Former Miami Dolphin Channing Crowder releases new product ahead of Father’s Day

Father’s Day is this weekend, which means it’s time to show the man in your life some love, and one former Miami Dolphin is making a pivot to the culinary world just in time for the special occasion.

Local 10′s Alexis Frazier caught up with Channing Crowder in the kitchen to create a quick meal for dads.

“All that gender role stuff -- come on now. Get in the kitchen,” Crowder said.

Crowder, a former Dolphin turned podcast host, is now a spice-slinging entrepreneur.

“I used to have a whole shelf. I’m talking floor to ceiling, where you pull out and have all the seasonings lined up, and you’re making ribs, you’re making pork, you’re making fish, you’re making so many things. My wife was like, ‘Why don’t you figure out what you use on stuff?’ Because everybody loves my cooking,” Crowder said.

It took about six to seven months to find the right blend that is now Crowder Powder.

“Crowder Powder is onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, brown sugar -- that’s a little secret I’m going to give that out to them -- Cayenne pepper and lemon oil,” Crowder said. “A lot of people use the zest, but the oil gets more flavor and you use less of it, but it also has a little more tang to it. You know, we did research on this thing. We’re not just winging it.”

This Father’s Day, Crowder says it’ll only take five ingredients to score big with family and friends.

“It’s a simple meal. All you need is chicken wings, potatoes, olive oil and Crowder Powder,” he explained. “Throw you a little olive oil on your potatoes, throw a little olive oil on your chicken wings.”

And of course, add a good amount of Crowder Powder to toss!

“The secret to this chicken wing thing is to make sure the skin side is up,” Crowder said.

He says to put both in the oven at 450 degrees, take the fries out first after 30 minutes and the wings out after 45 minutes.

You can purchase Crowder Powder online by clicking here, or purchase it in stores like Delaware Chicken Farm and Seafood Market, Mylaim Market and Broward Meat and Fish Company.

If you’d rather take your dad out for Father’s Day, here are some other ideas:

The Carey Foundation is hosting its annual Father-Daughter Dance on Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Broward Center for Performing Arts.

Prime 54 at the Fontainebleau has a special menu for dad and he gets a complimentary cigar at the end of it.

But if you’re looking for something sweet, Sweet Melody is having a sweet promotion from Friday through Father’s Day, where kids can treat their dad to a free scoop of ice cream.
