Thousands expected to attend third annual Rolling Loud Festival

Organizers have spent millions of security, safety

MIAMI – Nearly 40,000 people are expected to come out to downtown Miami for this year's Rolling Loud Festival, which starts Friday and runs until Sunday.

With headliners such as Kendrick Lamar, Future and Lil Wayne, the sold out event is expected to draw its largest crowds in three years.

To keep everyone safe, organizers have spent some $1.3 million for off-duty police security and fire rescue crews.

"We've seen what's going on around the world acts of terrorism. You know, we want to avoid some form of copycat, if you will," Sgt. Freddie Cruz, of Miami police, said. "If you see something suspicious, a person, a package, whatever it might be, tell us."

One northbound lane of Biscayne Boulevard will be closed from Chopin Plaza to North East Fourth Street to help control the crowds of people.

Festival goers are also being asked to use public transit.
