Jacksonville-born actor RJ Cyler from "Me and Earl and the Dying Girl" and the "Power Rangers" movie will star as Campbell in the film adaptation.
The film will tell the story of Campbell's transition from living in impoverished areas of Miami to becoming an icon for advocating for free speech in music.
2 Live Crew is best known for its songs "We Want Some P----" and "Me So Horny." The latter song was included in the 1989 album "As Nasty as They Wanna Be," which was deemed to be obscene by a federal judge and outlawed in several Florida counties.
