PLANTATION, Fla. – Caresha Romeka Brownlee stood near Santa Claus as an honorary elf. The rapper wore a white and hot pink “Caresha gives” T-shirt and ruby red pants to hand gifts during a much-needed drive-thru giveaway party on Saturday in Plantation.
Brownlee, 30, who grew up in Opa-locka, became a worldwide-known celebrity as rapper Yung Miami. She started her career in South Florida’s Trap music scene before record labels Quality Control and Universal Music Group took notice.
“If I could be a blessing to others, I would like to be,” Brownlee said as she spent time with fans during the charity event.
Brownlee and Jatavia Johnson, better known as Carol City rapper “JT,” co-founded the 305 hip-hop duo City Girls in 2017. By 2022, the two made their fans in Opa-locka and Carol City proud onstage at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Earlier this year, she performed “Da Baddest” with her Godmother, Katrina Kearse, better known as rapper “Trina” during the BET Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta, Georgia.
Although the City Girls split to “pursue solo careers,” they still get plays. “Ex For A Reason” had over 108 million plays on Spotify on Sunday afternoon. Brownlee has been focusing on her “Caresha Please” podcast and a new project with lots of twerking that she aims to release next year. She also wants to prioritize her work with her “Caresha Gives” charity.
“It’s Christmas time! I want to be able to give back to the people,” Brownlee said adding that she will be back for what she hopes will be an annual tradition.
The event’s partners included Phuse Cream, an ice cream shop at Westgate Plaza in Plantation; NFL wide receiver Marquise Brown’s The Hollywood Brown Foundation, and Nana House Behavioral Health, which treats addiction-related trauma in South Florida.
