The name is one of the most storied in rock and roll and Deep Purple proved all of the legends true when the band rocked out Sunday. August 31st at the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood!
A nice surprise for fans: "That Metal Show" host Eddie Trunk came out to help pump up the crowd and introduce metal legend, Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain who lives here in South Florida, who actually introduced Deep Purple.
The group came out to a very theatrical piece of orchestral music which eventually gave way to the lights coming up and Deep Purple barreling right into "Highway Star"! Ian Gillan's voice sounded great over the thunder coming from the classic rhythm lineup of Ian Paice and Roger Glover.
Former Kansas guitar wizard Steve Morse now handles lead guitar duties. He wowed the crowd with several solos showing off his prowess on the fretboard!
Today's Deep Purple consists of 3 members of the classic Mark II lineup: Ian Paice on drums, Ian Gillan on vocals and Roger Glover on bass. Steve Morse thrilled fans with his guitar technique and Don Airey handled keyboards. All of them took a solo or two to remind the fans of their years at the top of the classic rock heap.
The concert was fast paced; packed with classic songs that had the crowd up and dancing for most of the show. They saved their biggest hits for the end of the set; "Smoke on the Water" was the last number before the encores and Gillan didn't even have to sing: the audience was doing it for him! The band encored with "Green Onions", "Hush" and "Black Night"!
A great show from one of the greatest bands in rock history!
