MIAMI – Students at Seminole Elementary School gave a final farewell Wednesday to their teacher who is retiring after teaching for the past 50 years.
Donald Giancarlo, or Mr. G as he's known in his classroom, has touched the lives of countless students at the school.
Giancarlo has worked for a half a century teaching students, and spent 49 years at Seminole Elementary in Miami.
"As I told my students -- 9 o'clock every morning, I'll be watching 'The Lone Ranger,'" Giancarlo said.
Former students of Giancarlo's were also present at the celebration to wish their teacher good luck.
"I can't believe he's still here, actually," one alumnus said. "I came here in 1980 and now he's my daughter's teacher."
Some of Giancarlo's former students are now parents or even teachers themselves.
"I'm happy to have been a part of this and teaching with him for the last 15 years. It's a great feeling," a teacher and former student of Giancarlo's said.
After 50 years of teaching, Giancarlo said his final lesson is knowing that "If I gave anything to my students, I got back a thousand times."
Mr. G said his retirement hasn't hit him yet, but he expects to feel it once the school year starts in August.
He said the all of his memories with his students will last a lifetime.
