Miami Senior High School student accused of bringing pellet gun to school

Student arrested on campus Friday morning

MIAMI ā€“ A student at Miami Senior High School was arrested Friday after he allegedly brought a pellet gun on campus.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools spokeswoman Daisy Gonzalez-Diego said the student was arrested on charges of possession of a weapon on school grounds, battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.

Sky 10 was above the school at 2450 Southwest First St. as several police cars were parked outside the school's front entrance.

According to school officials, the boy is a freshman at the school. Authorities were notified at about 9 a.m. after some students in his class told their teacher that he had told them that he had a real gun on him.

Gonzalez-Diego said the student was treated by Fire Rescue personnel after getting into a scuffle with a school police officer who was attempting to place him into custody.

"Miami-Dade County Public Schools takes all matters involving weapons ā€“ even pellet guns ā€“ seriously and will follow through on all incidents of this type," MDCPS spokesman John Shuster said in a statement Friday afternoon.

The teen's identity has not been released.
