HHGregg to close 8 South Florida stores

INDIANAPOLIS – Electronics retailer HHGregg is shutting down 88 stores, including 8 in Miami-Dade and Broward County.

The company announced the move Thursday which will result in about 1,500 layoffs.

“We are strategically exiting markets and stores that are not financially profitable for us,” HHGregg CEO Robert Riesbeck said in a statement. “This is a proactive decision to streamline our store footprint in the markets where we have been, and will continue to be, important to our customers, vendor partners and communities."

Three distribution centers will also be closed.

The South Florida stores, along with the others, will be shut down by mid-April.
