Miramar police set to host annual basketball event to foster community ties

MIRAMAR, Fla. – The Miramar Police Department is preparing to host its eighth annual “Ballin’ for Unity” event, a basketball game aimed at strengthening relationships between law enforcement and the community.

The event, which is open to the public, will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at 3400 Wildcat Way.

The matchup will feature Miramar police officers taking on the high school basketball team from the Henry D. Perry Education Center. Among the officers participating is Daniel Herrera, a 14-year veteran of the department who serves as the school’s resource officer.

“This event has one goal in mind: to spread unity and build positive relationships between the police and the community we serve,” Herrera said.
