Job Listing – Design Manager
Job Overview:
WPLG the ABC affiliate in Miami/Fort Lauderdale is seeking a flexible multi-talented Designer Manager to work with a team of talented creative staff. The Design Manager will oversee the visual identity and design direction for television & station productions, ensuring that all design elements (Ross templates, Animations, News Graphics, Tessera Set Walls, digital elements, print materials and various station graphics) align with the overall creative vision of the television station’s identity. The Design Manager will combine creative innovation with technical expertise to bring ideas to life, collaborating with producers, directors, and various department heads to create compelling visual experiences that engage and captivate audiences. We are seeking a creative, collaborative and highly motivated individual with exceptional management skills and outstanding design sensibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design Direction: Lead and manage the design team, ensuring a cohesive and consistent visual style across all elements of production, including set design & graphics.
- Creative Vision: Collaborate with the executive producers, directors, and other key stakeholders to understand the creative vision of the show, interpreting it into a visual format that aligns with the tone, theme, and audience expectations.
- Project Management: Oversee the design process from concept to execution, ensuring deadlines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
- Team Leadership: Manage a team of designers, providing mentorship, feedback, and support to foster a collaborative and innovative environment.
- Innovation: Stay current with design trends and technology, integrating cutting-edge design practices and techniques to enhance the production’s visual appeal.
- Collaboration: Work closely with technical teams, including producers, directors, and editors to ensure designs are implemented effectively on screen.
- Problem-Solving: Address and resolve any design challenges that arise during the production process, finding solutions that align with both creative and technical constraints.
- Client/Stakeholder Communication: Present design concepts to key stakeholders, including the General Manager, News Director and Creative Services Director, incorporate feedback into the final design.
Position Requirements:
- Applicable college degree preferred
- 5+ years of management experience preferred
- 10+ years’ experience in television production preferred.
- Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite
- The position is on-site and requires a flexible schedule
