Nova Southeastern University campus all clear after incident

A man with a gun was reported on campus, according to police

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A man with a gun was reported on Nova Southeastern Davie campus around 9:54 p.m. on Thursday, according to police.

Davie Police Department said a woman called them to report she thought she saw a man with a gun on campus and claimed he pointed it at her.

Police said the campus was placed on lockdown, as were the nearby campuses of Florida Atlantic University and Broward College.

Police said officers found a man matching the woman's description with a toy gun around midnight walking in the 6800 block of Stirling Road.

The man, 60, was detained and questioned about the incident. Police said he admitted to being on College Avenue earlier in the night, but denied pointing the toy gun at anyone.

Police said the toy gun was collected as evidence and the investigation has been forwarded to the investigations bureau.

"Based on the fact that it was nighttime, and the manner that the male was carrying the umbrella and toy gun, it would plausible for the reportee to believe that it was an actual gun," authorities said in a news release.
