Police: 3 arrested after attempted vehicle burglaries outside rapper’s home, bailout on Palmetto Expressway

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – An attempted burglary led to a police chase and several arrests in northwest Miami-Dade County on Thursday evening.

According to police, three suspects pulled up to a home in a Dodge Charger before two got out, hopped the fence and tried to break into multiple vehicles that were parked outside the home.

It happened along Southwest 83rd Court. Property records show the home is owned by rapper Swae Lee, whose legal name is Khalif Malik Ibn Shaman Brown.

According to the suspects’ arrest reports, surveillance video shows Payton Pierre, 18, of Fort Lauderdale, trying to enter a black Rolls Royce SUV, but the doors were locked.

The video also shows Kamari Jackson, 20, of Fort Lauderdale, entering the driver’s side of an unlocked Jeep Wrangler and taking an unknown amount of U.S. currency, authorities said.

According to the arrest reports, Pierre is then seen entering a rented Volkswagen SUV, but no property was taken from the vehicle.

One of the victims, who police said rented the Volkswagen and was armed, allegedly confronted the suspects after seeing two of them hopping the fence of the home.

The victim told police that both suspects were wearing ski masks and, after spotting them jumping the fence, he ran outside and yelled at them to leave the property.

Police said one of the suspects grabbed the right side of his front pocket area, at which time the victim, who was armed, fired one gunshot into the ground, causing both suspects to jump back over the fence and flee the scene in the Charger they arrived in.

Sources told Local 10 News that the victim who fired the shot was a security guard.

According to the suspects’ arrest reports, the getaway car was being driven by 18-year-old Kenneth Ervin, of Lauderhill.

Police said while the suspects took off in the Charger, officers soon spotted the vehicle heading north on the Palmetto Expressway.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers were able to stop the car and take the three suspects into custody.

No injuries were reported.

The suspects all face charges of burglary of an occupied dwelling while masked and burglary of an unoccupied conveyance.
