Interactive art experience opens as pop-up in Miami

MIAMI ā€“ An international artist has created an interactive art experience in South Florida, turning a photo booth picture into a life-sized portrait.

Itā€™s called JRā€™s Printing Press, and the photo experience was created just for his Miami pop-up.

Thereā€™s also a hidden gym within the outside mural.

ā€œThis is a part of his chronicle series, which is really meant to imagine how a city can be represented in one artwork,ā€ Shantelle Rodriguez, director of experiential art centers at Superblue, said.

And that he did -- by taking portraits of locals and visitors and stitching them together on a mural that sits outside of Superblue Miami.

ā€œSuperblue Miami is a 50,000-square-foot experiential art center with fully immersive works by some of the leading contemporary artists,ā€ Rodriguez explained.

Each person on the wall has a story to share and you can hear that story through an app.

ā€œIf you actually click on the person, it shows you their full image, how their portrait was taken individually and translates their story,ā€ Rodriguez said.

The mural is the fifth part of a chronicle series and is just for us in Miami.

After getting into the booth, you step inside the printing press, which turns your image into a tangible work of art while offering a glimpse into the creative process of the French artist.

The photo is 4-feet-tall.

After the experience, you leave with your own one-of-a-kind print.

ā€œThis is a unique once-in-a-lifetime experience and itā€™s a really great moment to take a portrait with a family member, friend or loved one. You can be in the booth with another participant,ā€ Rodriguez said. ā€œIt really gives you a chance to understand JRā€™s work and the behind the scenes and become a creator.ā€

It costs $20 to get your print, and you can take a picture with multiple people at a time.
