VOTE 2024: Broward County Nov. 5 General Election Results

Voters in Broward County and across the U.S. will head to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 5 to cast their ballots in the General Election.

At the top of the ballot will be the presidential race between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.

Results in Florida start coming in at 7 p.m. EST even though the final polls don’t close in the state until 8 p.m. EST.

Florida law requires each county to report its early and absentee ballots first. That includes mail-in ballots, which lean heavily Democratic.

Over the past two election cycles, Democrats have tended to vote by mail more than Republicans. That means the first results reported often look stronger for Democratic candidates than the eventual outcome. Then, as the votes cast on Election Day trickle in, Republicans start seeing much more favorable results.

In addition to the presidential race, voters will be making important decisions on Florida amendments, including whether to legalize recreational marijuana and whether to remove the government’s ability to block or delay the decision to end a pregnancy before the fetus is “viable” and/or to protect the life of the mother.

In Broward, voters will be choosing whether to keep Gregory Tony as sheriff or replace him with Charles Whatley.

There are also several U.S. congressional seats that will be voted on, as well as state congressional seats.

Mayoral races are also being held in some cities, including Cooper City, Fort Lauderdale, Hallandale Beach, Hollywood, Lauderdale Lakes, Lauderhill, Pompano Beach, Southwest Ranches, Sunrise and Wilton Manors.
