For me, you wake up and youre thinking, This is it, Im turning the corner, Davis said. Davis spoke about the uncertainty that comes with the novel coronavirus, and how it can affect people so differently. Initially, I thought I could fight this off at home, and then before you know it youre in the hospital. My energy level has been good, so Im hoping that is becoming more and more like normal.

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. Paige Harris is this years Jerome Edmund Gray Youth Achiever. This distinction is part of the annual African-American Achievers awards program, which was founded by the late Jim Moran and has honored South Florida community leaders for the past 28 years. As a recent graduate of Atlantic Technical High School in Coconut Creek, Harris made an impression with her academic accomplishments, active involvement at school and dedication to community service. She is an honor roll student, a member of the student government, a cheerleader and a youth mentor. Being named an African-American Achiever speaks volumes to me, because I feel as though I am stepping into a new level of leadership, Harris said.

Local 10 News anchor Calvin Hughes was in Haiti right after the historic earthquake and is back a decade later. Some Haitians have tried to make the best of the situation while still recovering from the earthquake. Haitians in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood had a silent march to commemorate and reflect on the devasting day. Johanne St. Leger lost her uncle and father in the earthquake and had been grieving silently for nearly 10 years.

The luncheon will honor 12 of South Florida's leading men for their unwavering dedication to the community, civic service and support of local charities. Last year's 12 Good Men honorees pose for a photograph. All of the proceeds benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Florida and its core program, the Ronald McDonald House, which provides a safe haven to parents of children being treated at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami and Broward Health in Fort Lauderdale. The South Florida houses serve 48 families on any given night.
