Miami-Dade Schools police officer ‘appears to be OK’ after West Kendall crash

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – An officer with the Miami-Dade Schools Police Department was rushed to a hospital after a crash in the county’s West Kendall area Friday afternoon.

The crash happened at the intersection of Southwest 56th Street and 147th Avenue.

The officer was in an unmarked Dodge Charger at the time of the crash, which also involved a pickup truck and appeared to also involve another sedan.

According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, the officer was taken to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital as a trauma alert patient. Video from Sky 10 showed an ambulance being escorted by several M-DSPD officers and Miami-Dade sheriff’s deputies.

A school district spokesperson later said in an email that the officer “appears to be OK.”

Authorities have not said what led up to the crash.
